We created Everblue in 2018 to bridge the gap between marine science and YOU! Our founder Ellie Jones formed the organization while studying at the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology, recognizing her education granted her access to current ocean research that people who were not studying the sciences did not have. In order to make science more accessible and use it to inform sustainable lifestyles, she sought out equally passionate people to create our team, and Everblue was born. Since that day, we have shared weekly summaries of marine research on our online platforms, created free educational programs, presented at conferences around the globe, partnered with like-minded organizations, and launched our Bridge Program to provide communication services for scientists and others.
Our mission is to remove barriers around science by connecting people with researchers in order to empower both to learn and share more about the ocean. We do this through solutions-oriented programs, conducting outreach with people who want to learn about the ocean and in-reach with scientists who want to learn how to better communicate their research.
Our work as a team is dedicated to Rob Waibel, a dedicated forestry teacher, decorated lumberjack, and determined climate advocate. He was the inspiration that gave Ellie the idea for Everblue in 2017; less than a month after being diagnosed with cancer, Rob told Ellie he wanted to travel the country and teach people about climate change. After Everblue was founded in 2018, Rob became a part of our core team, helping us grow into the nonprofit that we are today. Now, the Everblue team hopes to continue and realize his dream of using education for conservation. His heart for the planet and for education will always be a source of motivation and hope for Everblue.
